Srinagar: Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today accused the government of violating the right to life in Kashmir and said the NC leaders are “morally dead”.
“The right to life is being totally violated and is under great threat in Kashmir. In fact, it has ceased to exist in the eyes of the rulers of Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said.
The Hurriyat chairman had convened a press conference at his Nigeen residence as he was put under house arrest.
A large posse of police personnel stopped most of the journalists at Ashai Bagh but few of them managed to reach Nigeen where they were stopped by another team of policemen from entering the residence of Mirwaiz.
The Hurriyat leader climbed the wall and addressed the handful of journalists through a public address system.
“The rulers of Kashmir have turned shameless and morally dead and are acting as stooges of Delhi to implement the agenda of suppression and brutalisation through their military might to crush the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“The continued imposition of black laws like AFSPA provide a licence to the forces to kill and the immunity from prosecution has emboldened the troops,” he said.
He said there is no alternative but to resolve Kashmir issue by respecting the wishes and aspirations of its people. “No amount of force and suppression can change that,” he added.
Mirwaiz said he will write to the diplomats of various countries in New Delhi to inform them about the situation in Kashmir.
He urged the people of Kashmir to hoist black flags and tie black bands on their arms tomorrow and hold peaceful demonstrations after Friday prayers to protest against the recent killings in Shopian.
