New Delhi: In a major crackdown against drunk driving in the national capital, the AAP government has suspended driving licenses of over 1,000 people for one year for driving in an inebriated state.
Government has also cancelled 29 driving licenses taking drunk driving as a "serious offense"
According to a government official, these drivers have committed an act which endangers safety of public on the city roads due to which their licenses were suspended for one year.
"We have suspended around 1,020 driving licenses of persons who were found driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol. We have also cancelled 29 licenses of drivers permanently.
"Government will continue its action against drunk driving in the capital," said the official.
The official also said that the habitual tendency of drunk driving on the part of these offenders may lead to traffic accidents in future endangering their own lives and that of other road users, adding that drunk driving is being treated as a "serious offense".
The action was taken after Delhi Traffic police recently sent a list of such drivers who were found driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol for one, two or more occasions, the official said.
Till October last year, government had also suspended 810.
