Hyderabad, May 8: Hyderabad police cybercrime wing arrested an officer of Director General of Central Excise (Intelligence) here today, for allegedly sending scandalous and malicious emails using a fake email ID against a group of officers in the department, to higher authorities.

On April 29, a complaint was filed by Y Sreenivasa Reddy, who formerly worked as Superintendent of Customs and Central Exise and is presently an Andhra Pradesh High Court advocate and tax consultant, alleging that a fake email ID was created in his name and that such emails were sent against some officers to the email ID of the Director of the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, New Delhi.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that B Sangameshwar Rao, intelligence officer at the Director General of Central Excise (Intelligence) here, who has been working here for the past 17 years is well connected with all officers in his office, as well as trade contacts.  Sangameshwar Rao had been receiving all privileges and benefits of an officer though he is a senior tax assistant.

However, for the past two years, five officers Srinivas, CM Reddy, Satish, Kondaiah and Prakash who were involved in raids, searches and investigations had not been contacting him like eariler officers, a release said.

“Sangameshwar Rao was losing all his trade contacts and he tried to convince these officers, but in vain.

Since he bore a grudge and felt jealous of these officers, he hatched a plan to get them transferred from his office by sending mails to his senior officers in Delhi and Chennai with maliciously false content against them,” a release from the Detective Department said.
