Indore, Sept 19: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today appreciated Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for “shunning” the ideology of Guru Golwalkar, second chief of RSS, and following the path of Mahatma Gandhi by undertaking fast for amity in Gujarat.  Modi should now show courage to bring communal harmony and “real” development work in the BJP-ruled state, the Congress leader said.

“Modiji Guru Golwalkar ko chhod kar Mahatma Gandhi ki rah par ahye... bahut acha hai...magar lache dar bhasha aur dhong ke bajai vo kam bhi karen aur himmat bhi dikhayein” (Modi has shunned Guru Golwalkar and followed the path of Mahatma Gandhi...but instead of making flowery speeches let him show some real courage and do welfare works),” Singh said.

He was speaking at a sit-in organised by the Indore District Congress to protest deplorable road conditions.  “Modi should show courage and bring communal harmony and real development work in Gujarat,” Singh maintained.

There was nothing new that Modi brought in Gujarat, he said, adding, the western state had achieved 10 per cent growth even during the Congress rule because of its coastal location and presence of big business houses.

Comparing Gujarat with Madhya Pradesh, another state ruled by the BJP, Singh said when he was the Chief Minister MP's growth was raised from 2 per cent to 6.5 per cent.  Under the current Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government, corruption has become all pervasive, the Congress leader said.

“BJP Ministers are critical of their own Chief Minister and appreciating my tenure,” he said. PTI
