Guwahati: City buses in Assam's capital will remain off the road for 12 hours tomorrow in protest against the firing in Golaghat that left three persons dead and six others injured today.
The Guwahati City Bus Association has decided not to ply their buses for 12 hours tomorrow in the city to protest against the firing in Golaghat.
All city buses, including mini buses, would not ply tomorrow from 5 AM to 5 PM, a spokesman of the Association told the media.
This was the first time that the buses would remain off the road protesting against police action, the spokesman said.
Three persons were killed and six others injured in police firing in Golaghat town today when a mob tried to set ablaze the deputy commissioner's office and a police station and targeted a hospital, after which indefinite curfew was clamped in the areas.
The mob was protesting against yesterday's police action at Rangajon where people were allegedly dragged out of their homes and beaten up, besides rubber pellets fired injuring 22 persons.
Protests were also against the alleged failure of the state government to protect people living on Assam-Nagaland border at Uriamghat against the attack by alleged miscreants from Nagaland killing nine persons and rendering over 10,000 homeless on August 12.
