New Delhi: A 25-year-old girl from Allahabad committed suicide by jumping before a Vaishali bound metro train at Yamuna Bank station on Sunday evening.
The girl, identified as Anjali, and her family had gone to Mandi House for seeing a “suitable” boy for marriage and were returning back to Ghaziabad when the incident took place at around 6.20 pm, said a senior police officer.
As per reports, the girl's wedding was fixed in Delhi and that her family had come from Allahabad to meet the groom's family, after the latter denied going ahead with the wedding plans.
The girl probably committed suicide due to the rejection, police said, adding that mobile phone, a metro card and a purse containing Rs 40 were found on her body.
The girl was wandering aimlessly at the metro station for more than 10 minutes before jumping in front of a metro train at platform number 3, commuters said.
The police did not recover any suicide note from the spot. Metro services on the route were disrupted for around 20 minutes after the incident.
