Gangrape fallout: Haryana panchayat bans girls from wearing jeans and T-shirts

Hisar, Haryana, Jan 8: A khap panchayat in Khedar village of Hisar has imposed a ban on youngsters using cellphones and has ordered girls not to wear jeans and T-shirts.

 


The panchayat has also clamped a complete ban on consumption of liquor and organising of DJ parties.
 
The decision was taken by the panchayat under the chairmanship of sarpanch Shamsher Singh.
 
Says Shamsher Singh: "We have decided to ban alcohol as it is the main reason behind rapes. We have also banned jeans and T-shirts for girl students as it is not a proper dress."
 
The khap panchayat has set up a 11-member committee to implement its decisions.
