Dehradun: Pilgrimage to Gangotri, one of the Char Dhams, resumed today after remaining suspended for over three months in the wake of the devastating flashfloods in the state.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Pankaj Pandey took stock of the condition of the roads in the Gangotri area yesterday and declared the resumption of the yatra, an official release said today.
“There is no problem in resuming the pilgrimage and people from all over the country can now visit the shrine,” Pandey said.
However, right now, heavy vehicles can go only upto Uttarkashi. From there, the pilgrims will have to go to Gangotri in small vehicles, he said. The road route to the Himalayan shrine in Garhwal is being repaired on a war footing and it will soon be reopened for heavy vehicles also, he said.
The yatra was suspended after the floods ravaged the state on June 16.
