Lucknow: In a horrific incident, a 15 year old daughter of a winning woman Block Development Council (BDC) candidate was allegedly gang-raped by her mother's rivals to avenge the Panchayat poll defeat at a village in UP's Mirzapur district.

The victim's mother was elected as BDC member in the recently held panchayat polls and the accused are brothers of her rival candidates.

According to Times of India, the victim later killed herself after the police refused to file an FIR against the accused who had been named.

The girl, a class 11 student, was kidnapped on Wednesday by two men from rival group when she was asleep at her home. She was taken to a field and raped, the daily quoted sources as saying.

On Thursday, the BDC member along with her daughter and other family members went to the police station to lodge a complaint. But, the girl's mother said, instead of taking down the complaint, the police gave only verbal assurances and asked them to return home.

Traumatized and humiliated, the girl hanged herself in her house forcing cops to lodge an FIR against Pappu Bahelia and Bindu Bahelia under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act 2012 and arrested both of them.

The duo was arrested and produced before the local court Saturday which sent them to judicial custody.
