On the issue of marital rape, the retired judge said: "Marriage doesn't mean that man can use the woman as he wishes. However, no third person can complain in matters of marital rape. For consensual sex, the minimum age is 16 years."
Justice Verma refused to comment on the revelation of the identity of the Delhi gang rape victim's friend by Zee News channel, saying "the matter is sub-judice, so I won't comment on the case against the channel which telecasted the interview."
