New Delhi: A day before it ordered Nestle to stop the manufacture and sale of nine variants of Maggi Noodles, FSSAI has now put products from Tata Starbucks, Kellogg's, Venky's and Ranbaxy on its blacklist.
Reports suggested that the FSSAI found high levels of sugar, caramel, salt or heavy metals, caffeine and iron fillings in nearly 500 products including 32 from Starbucks.
Last week, the food regulatory body handed over the list of around 500 products rejected by it to food safety commissioners at the authority's central scientific advisory committee meeting here.
The Starbucks products on the list are mainly sauces and syrups, such as a dark caramel sauce, an international chocolate mix, chestnut-flavoured syrup, flavoured coffee, tea and other beverages.
The issue of food safety has been in the news since late last month, following which the food safety regulator on June 5 ordered the recall of all the nine variants of Maggi noodles with tastemaker after receiving adverse lab reports.
Some laboratories to which the Maggi samples were sent to not only found higher-than-permissible levels of lead, but also high amounts of mono-sodium glutamate (MSG).
Nestle, during its presentation before the regulator on June 4, had faulted the testing protocols followed by the labs and contended that they also had not been interpreted properly.
