New Delhi, Dec 5: Former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, often held responsible through his “inaction” for the Babri Masjid demolition, had said in his book that the act was a “conspiracy” that had been “pre-planned”. He called it a “betrayal” by the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government of then chief minister Kalyan Singh who gave repeated assurances to the central government only to break it.
In the book “Ayodhya 6 December 1992” (Penguin Vikings) that appeared posthumously, Rao said the Kalyan Singh government had given assurances to the National Integration Council that the disputed structure would be protected.
