Dehra Dun, Jun 18: Five members of a family were killed and their driver was injured today when a car in which they were travelling fell into a river in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, police said here.
The incident took place at Raituli area when the driver of the car, carrying the family from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn and it skidded off the road and fell into Alaknanda river, they said.
All the five persons died on the spot, while the injured driver was rushed to a hospital, police said. The family was going for a pilgrimage to Kedarnath when the incident occurred.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has expressed grief over the accident and directed the district administration to provide best medical care to the injured.
