Five more persons succumbed to swine flu while 178 fresh cases of the disease were reported from across the country on Tuesday.
With today's cases, the total number of those dead due to swine flu has reached 308 while those affected have crossed 10,000, according to the Union Health ministry.
Delhi reported the highest 56 cases followed by Maharashtra 43, Tamil Nadu 27 and Assam 16.
Of the 178 cases reported during the day, three are imported cases and the rest are indigenous. The five deaths reported are from from Delhi (1), Maharashtra (2), Haryana (1) and Andhra Pradesh (1).
Of the two dead in Maharashtra, one was Madhav Mandlik who died in Nashik. According to civil surgeon Dr Asaram Bhalsingh, Mandlik was admitted to the Nashik Civil hospital four days back after he showed symptoms of the virus, they said, adding he later tested positive for the viral infection. Mandlik, also a diabetic patient, died on Sunday night, they said.
At present, 25 patients are being treated in the hospital out of which four have tested positive for the virus. PTI
