Dehradun: Five members of a marriage party were killed when their car fell into Gangnahar in Haridwar district, a senior police official said today.
The mishap occurred when the youths aged between 28 and 35 were returning from a marriage ceremony at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Friday night, Haridwar SSP Senthil Abudai Krishnaraj said.
Their relatives lodged a missing complaint at Kankhal police station yesterday when the youths did not return home.
After hours of search a car was sighted in Gangnahar last evening from which the bodies of the youths were pulled out, the official said.
The deceased have been identified as Bhupendra, Monish, Raju, Hemant and Tinu, he said, adding they died of drowning as the vehicle they were travelling in went out of control and fell into the canal.
