Fifteen fire tenders were engaged to battle the blaze and the building was evacuated, said fire services minister Javed Khan who visited the site to supervise fire fighting operations.
Sources said that the fire fighting operations proved difficult as the building was located in a congested lane.
The cause of fire and the extent of damage was yet to be ascertained.
Khan said that initially there was a problem in firefighting operations as the area is very congested.
“However, soon the fire services and disaster management personnel entered the building. Nearly 50 per cent of the fire has already been contained. The fire could be completely doused soon,” he said.
Khan ruled out any chance of the fire spreading to other buildings.
“Fire fighters are also dousing the flames from an adjacent highrise building. There is no scarcity of water and there is no chance of the fire spreading. Nobody is trapped or injured in the incident,” he said.
