Mumbai: The busy railway station of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus got shaken after a major fire break out in the evening today. Around 15 fire tenders and 3 ambulances have been hurried to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Officials from Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), whose headquarters is located opposite CST, said 35 people were evacuated from the building and there was no loss to life in the incident.
According to fire brigade officials, the blaze started on the fifth floor of the new administrative building of the Central Railway at DN Road. It has lead to a major traffic jam on DN Road near the station.
"We got a call at about 5pm and we immediately pressed four fire tenders into service. Thereafter, the fire was upgraded one notch to Grade 2 and a total of eight fire tenders, snorkels and ambulances have now been rushed to the spot," an official said.
“Vehicular traffic on the JJ flyover has been halted temporarily and services of few trains in the Suburban Line have also been affected”, they added.
Efforts to evacuate the officials working in the building and bring the situation under control are going on in full swing.
However, the cause of the blaze has not been ascertained yet, said officials.
