New Delhi: An FIR has been lodged against former Delhi minister and AAP North West Delhi candidate Rakhi Birla for violating model code of conduct by allegedly visiting areas near polling booths in her constituency wearing the party cap on the day of voting here on April 10.
The FIR has been lodged at the Mangolpuri police station by Delhi's Chief Electoral Office on the directions of the Returning Officer of North West Delhi Udit Prakash Rai, said senior election officials.
It has been lodged under Section 130 (1) of the Representation of the People Act (for canvassing within a distance of 100 metre of a polling booth on the date of voting), they said.
The Election Commission had received complaints that the former Women and Child Development Minister had turned up near some polling stations in her constituency wearing the party's trademark cap on the polling day, they said.
After examining the complaint, the commission had issued a show-cause notice to Birla, seeking an explanation. However, Birla did not reply.
