Hyderabad: The leader of a gang involved in fake currency circulation, who was wanted in regard to attack on two policemen in adjoining Ranga Reddy district of Telangana has surrendered before the police, a senior officer said today.

Yellam Goud, who had fled to Maharashtra after the attack, in which a Constable was killed and a Sub-Inspector injured, gave himself up to Cyberabad Police.

"Yellam Goud, who had fled to Maharashtra, has surrendered before police," Cyberabad Joint Commissioner Y Gangadhar told PTI.

The officer did not elaborate when asked whether Goud surrendered before police in Hyderabad or in Maharashtra and also if he had been placed under arrest.

Earlier, three special squads had been formed and dispatched to Medak, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts of Telangana to catch Goud and other members of his gang.

Constable Eshwar Rao was killed and SI Venkat Reddy suffered serious stab injuries after the gang members attacked them with swords and knives around midnight on August 1 when confronted by a police team, who was hot on their heels.

One of the gang members, Mustafa, was killed when police fired in retaliation. Two of his associates, Raghu and Naresh, were arrested soon after the incident.
