Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 20 : The process of valuation of the treasures found at the Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple at Thiruvananthapuram officially commenced today under the supervision of an experts' committee appointed by the Supreme Court.
M Velayudhan Nair, coordinator of the experts committee appointed by the Supreme Court, said apart from the members of the committee, three additional experts are taking part in the valuation process.
Five secret temple vaults were opened in June-July last year on the direction of the Supreme Court.
The temple, which has a history of around a thousand years, is one of the most famous Lord Vishnu temples in south India.
The rough estimate of the treasure found in five chambers puts their value at Rs 100,000 crore. This includes thousands of gold and silver ornaments and utensils and precious stones like ruby, emerald, diamond, pearl, etc.
Harikumar, temple administrative head, told India TV that the state-run Kerala Electronic Development Corporation (Keltron) would be in charge of the evaluation and documentation.
Former prince Aditya Varma told India TV that the expert panel would be documenting the valuables inside the “nityadi ara” on the first day.
The Supreme Court appointed panel said the evaluation was carried out by an instrument made by Keltron with the help of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).
