New Delhi: Members of ex-servicemen association today threatened to go on protest and relay strike from June 14 if their demand of One Rank One Pension (OROP) is not met by then.

The members of association, under the leadership of its chairman Major General Satbir Singh, today met Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar demanding implementation of OROP scheme.

Singh, after the meeting, said that they hope their demand will be met soon. The group had also told the same when it met Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag on Wednesday.

“We want a date as to when this (OROP) will be implemented. If we won't get specific date then we'll start agitation frm 14 June, from 15 June we'll go on hunger strike,” said Singh after the meeting.

He added that the meeting was inconclusive and will meet the defence minister again.

"We met him requesting to use his good office to convey to the government that there is no multiple definition of OROP as been said by various people from the government," Singh had told PTI after the meeting.

Ex-servicemen have also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for implementation of OROP as soon as possible.

OROP scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly three million ex-servicemen in the country.

It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel who retire at the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.

Vowing to address the "vexed" issue of OROP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on May 31 sought "some time" from the ex-servicemen.

Modi said the issue is not as simple as he had thought but much more "vexed" as "problems" have been added to it over the years.
