Gorakhpur (UP) : With 13 more deaths reported due to encephalitis in the past 48 hours, the toll from the disease in the eastern Uttar Pradesh has reached 343, health officials said today.
Of this, eight deaths occurred yesterday at the BRD Medical College Hospital. These include three children from Kushinagar, two each from Gorakhpur and Deoria and one from Siddharthanagar. The five children who died today include three from Deoria and one each from Gorakhpur and Siddharthanagar, they said.
As many as 76 fresh encephalitis patients have been admitted to BRD Medical College Hospital and other government hospitals during past two days. With this, a total of 1,696 encephalitis patients have been admitted, of which 343 have died, the officials said.
Over 180 patients are being treated at BRD Medical College Hospital and other government hospitals at present, according to them.
