The Election Commission of India (EC) has announced that it will hold a press conference at 3 pm today to unveil the schedule for the upcoming "General Election to Legislative Assemblies."

While the EC has not officially named the states where elections will be held, it is widely anticipated that the announcement will pertain to Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir as the officials from the election commission recently held a visit to the two places  to oversee the poll preparedness.

About the assembly elections

The Haryana Legislative Assembly's term is set to end in November, necessitating elections before that date. Also, Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting to hold elected assembly for five years after the Supreme Court judgment has mandated that elections in the Union Territory must be held by September 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, in other news, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has transferred several officials, including deputy commissioners, a couple of weeks after the Election Commission first directed the poll-bound valley to transfer out officers posted in their home districts.

In an order issued, the poll commission earlier on July 31 directed the J&K administration to transfer out officers posted in their home districts, an exercise it holds ahead of conducting elections.

And, late on Thursday night, the general administration department of Jammu and Kashmir following with the EC's order announced  transfers of 89 officials posted within their home state with immediate effect. This includes the transfer of deputy commissioners of Poonch and Bandipora districts, secretaries, commissioners, director generals, managing directors, and directors of several departments.
