Chennai: A 26-year-old man, who had returned from Guinea, has been admitted in a government hospital in Chennai and is under "screening and observation" for Ebola virus, hospital authorities said.

The man from Theni district in the state had arrived from Guinea on Saturday night and was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government hospital for "screening and observation", Dr Raghunandan of the hospital told reporters.

Without divulging details about the man, the doctor said the man is healthy and such a screening and observation was being done as per the Central government's directive that persons returning from West African countries which are affected by the Ebola virus outbreak must be screened for the deadly virus upon their arrival.

All relevant tests will be conducted, Dr Raghunandan said, adding, there was no reason to panic.
