New Delhi: A Doordarshan anchor was sacked for wrongly pronouncing Chinese President Xi Jinping's name as "Eleven Jinping" yesterday.
India's state broadcaster Doordarshan's anchor had mistaken the word Xi for the Roman numeral XI (eleven).
The bulletin went on air at 6.15 a.m. on Wednesday and she was sacked in the afternoon.
Doordarshan's chief executive Jawahar Sircar said later on that steps had been taken to avoid repetition of such instances in future.
"We've taken action plus upgrading systems," Sircar tweeted.
The official said a shortage of news readers had forced the channel to run some news bulletins with casual and inexperienced anchors.
Chinese President Xi Jinping was on a 3 day visit to India and he left home on Friday.
Jinping was here to boost trade and economic ties and to improve the Indo-China bielateral realations.
