The minimum age for admission for nursery classes in the city's schools could be raised from three to four years with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday saying her government has no objection to idea proposed by the Centre.
"We have no objection to the suggestion," Dikshit told reporters when asked about the Human Resource Development Ministry's suggestion to increase the minimum age for nursery students in the city. The suggestion from HRD Minister Kapil Sibal came yesterday after a meeting with principals and parents of city schools. Sibal had said he would write to Dikshit to consider its implementation. Dikshit said the tiny tots often find it difficult to handle various pressure including that of going to schools by buses. "We will examine the proposal carefully," she said. Sibal had said the age for nursery and KG should be in the range of four to five and five to six respectively. "The consensus was that the minimum age for nursery admission should not be three years. It should be four years. Admission into nursery system at three years adds emotional stress to the child when he should discover the world," Sibal said. PTI
