Chandigarh:Hours after around 500 VHP activists were detained by police in Raiganj of West Bengal, the Hindu outfit on Sunday alleged that it was an attempt to muzzle the voice of Hindus.

He was to address a rally of VHP workers at Raiganj in West Bengal. But around 500 VHP activists were detained bypolice while they were marching towards the venue of their rally in North Dinajpur district.

VHP had announced to hold a 'Dharm Sammelan' meeting at the Raiganj Merchant Club field to commemorate 50 years of its existence.

Togadia's entry into the state was banned by the West Bengal government fearing "communal tension and disruption in public tranquillity."

Unfazed by the police action, Togadia said, "We will keep raising our voice by using Facebook, Whats app and tweeter by sending messages across through videos".

Seeking immediate ouster of illegal Bangladeshi national living in the country, he urged the Centre and state governments to take a "time-bound action" for removing illegal infiltrators as they are a threat to national security."

The VHP international president also advocated for a uniform civil code.

Noting that economy of the country suffers due to increasing population, he said there must be a control on the population.

"Two children norm should be put into effect. Those who do not agree should be deprived of citizenship," he said.

"Law should be the same for members of all religions. The Common Civil Code should be established in the country," he said. He also opposed setting up of dams on rivers like Ganga.

"The continuous flow of water in river keeps it clean," he said.
