New Delhi: Students seeking admissions in the engineering line put premium on the reputation of the college, while those looking at MBA or other undergraduate courses choose a city before deciding on the institution, with Delhi-NCR as the most preferred region.

According to a survey by education website, Siksha.com, there is a clear preference among students from non-metros to come to metros with 66 per cent looking to migrate to a metro for better education.

Among the metros, Delhi-NCR is the most preferred city as 21.1 per cent college seekers opted for this place, followed by Bangalore (17.58 per cent), Pune (10.63 per cent) and Mumbai (8.4 per cent) in the second, third and fourth place respectively.

"There is multiplicity of factors that students evaluate now a days while deciding a college which were nonexistent a decade ago. City has emerged as the pivot in their decision making process with all students except engineering indicating it as an important criteria while selecting a campus," Shiksha.com Business Head Maneesh Upadhyaya said.

For prospective engineering students, it is the reputation of the college which is an important factor while deciding the college with 32 per cent students surveyed quoting the same.

Prospective students in Arts, Science, Commerce, Design and Mass Communication, it is the city that takes priority with 39 per cent students who participated in the survey stating they will base their decision to select a college on the basis of the city in which it is located.

The survey saw the participation of over 2,500 students spread across MBA, BBA, Engineering, Hospitality, Design, Media and other UG courses.
