In a brazen burglary, three Delhi policemen stole lakhs worth cellphones from a shop in high-security Ansal Plaza in south Delhi on August 16 night.

All the three were caught on hidden CCTV cameras installed inside the shop, the goods recovered and the police is trying to hush up the incident, reports the Hindi daily Jagaran.

Sandeep Choudhary, the owner of the cellphone shop T-Zone in Ansal Plaza locked his showroom on August 16 evening and went home. Next morning, when he returned he found the locks broken and lakhs worth cellphones burgled from his shop.

On checking his two CCTV camera records, he found to his horror that the burglars were none other than three policemen, two in uniform and the third in mufti. They were identified as divisional incharge B S Sharma, under training sub-inspector Nikesh and constable Manoj. All three were sent to police lines of Defence Colony police station.

After the matter was referred to Special Cell and Police headquarters was informed, the police is now cooking up a story to say that the three found a key left in the lock, and had taken away the cellphones for “safekeeping”. But police is unable to explain why the cellphones were not deposited in the police station. Senior police officials are tight-lipped about this case.
