Delhi Police on Monday said it has not found any role of a Member of Parliament in connection with the rape of a young maid allegedly by a man at the servants quarters of the residence allotted to the politician.

Prem Kumar Mallick (28) was apprehended two days ago for allegedly raping a 24-year-old maid at the servants quarters of the house allotted to Tathagat Satpathy, a BJD MP from Orissa, and son of former Orissa chief minister Late Nandini Satpathy, on March 23 and 24.

"We have not found any role of Satpathy in the incident. He was not present in the house when the incident took place," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said. Satpathy s presently in Orissa.

The incident came to light on Saturday when the victim told some neighbours that Mallick allegedly raped her twice and threatened her of dire consequences if she informed the police.

The matter was reported to police after which the victim, a resident of Dakshinpuri in the capital, was taken to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape. The victim also claimed she was kept in confinement by Mallick. PTI
