Delhi is now world's second most populous city

New Delhi: India's capital New Delhi has been ranked as the world's second most populous city in the world by the US's Population Reference Bureau. The data has been revealed by the 2013 World Population Data Sheet itself.Well, this top ranking is something that a Delhite will not be proud of. Delhi, which in 1950 could not even compete any of the populous countries of that time has ironically grabbed the second position of the list.Figures provided by survey of 2013 show - the current population of Delhi is1.67 crore which has increased by 21 per cent from 2010. This means that 16,787,941 are currently residing in the capital. Out of which 53.53 per cent (8,987,326) are males while 46.47 per cent (7,800,615). The first survey for population of Delhi that was taken in 1950 which revealed that the population that time was 1,39,1000. Being the capital of the country, few aspects of this city are still ignored. The reasons which have sustained in Delhi for its growing population are: migration of people from other places to Delhi, lack of employment in other parts of the country, low education level.It creates more issues for the existing population of Delhi and the migrated people too. Frequently, citizens of Delhi have to face problems such as; lack of water, lack of electricity, less area to build houses, environmental issues, increasing crime rate due to decreasing job opportunities. These are problems which people face in their mundane lives. However, few have adapted themselves in this environment and others still struggle for it.Whereas another metro of India, Mumbai ranks seventh on the list for its population. It was ranked the 17th most populous city in the world in 1950. Therefore, it has been quite a constant growth in the population of Mumbai with years.In fact, Mumbaikars face much less problems as compared to Delhiites. The crime rate in Mumbai is much less than Delhi. Though, due to overpopulation the problem of living area persists there as well.Now, let's go through some of the most crowded areas in Delhi: Chandni ChowkThe variety in Chandni Chowk varies for food to clothes. The specialty of Chandni Chowk is the Paranthe wali gali which is best known for its sweets and delicacies. This attracts a lot of tourists to this place. Palika bazaarThe USP of this market is that one can get from anything to everything in this market, that too at very cheap prices. But watch out on quality. The cheap prices bring a lot of crowd to this market. Also beware, it could be a tinderbox any time. the pathways are congested, and the doors of this underground market are always crowded.PaharganjThe food and local markets of Paharganj are amongst one of the frequently visited places in Delhi by budget tourists. One of the reasons why it fetches crowd is that it is located cheek and jowl with the New Delhi railway station. Watch out for the addicts, the small-timer cheats, crooks and pickpockets, but enjoy walking and shopping through its narrow streets.Connaught PlaceCP is the heart of Delhi as it is even geographically situated right in the centre of the city. CP is pereniaaly choked with vehicles, and normally regular Delhiites avoid CP during office hours. CP showcases the best of emporiums from the nooks and corners of India, olde worlde music and even gun shops, Nirula's, Regal and Jantar Mantar. The heart of Delhi has survived reckless digging by NDMC for the past 10 years.Laxmi NagarIt is the most crowded residential area of East Delhi. Also, nowadays many offices have been built in few narrow streets of the area due to which its streets are usually stuck with traffic jams.NizamuddinThis is another hub of tourists (both foreigners and Indian devotees) due to the famous Nizamuddin dargah and its food as well.The famous Humayun Tomb and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station are located nearby.
