New Delhi: To ensure that banks and ATMs in the city have foolproof security, the Delhi government has asked them to hire the services of only licensed private security agencies.

The government has also directed private security agencies to deploy guards who are trained to deal with robbery bids.

A senior government official said that running private security agencies without obtaining a licence under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005, is a punishable offence.

“All the banks have been asked to ensure that they engage only private security agencies which have obtained a licence from the government.

“The government has also directed all private security agencies in the city to deploy guards at banks and ATMs who were adequately trained as per the guidelines framed by it,” the official said.

The government has made it clear that service like cash-in transit and ATMs should also be handled by licensed security agencies in the national capital.  Sources said that apart from this, government is also preparing a security blueprint for all the city's banks and ATMs so that untoward incidents can be prevented.
