Delhi government conducts raids against hoarders across the city

New Delhi: In a massive drive launched across the city against hoarders of essential commodities, Delhi government today raided 549 premises unearthing large illegal stock of pulses and rice.


During the raids, 104 traders were prosecuted under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

A total 52 teams comprising of Assistant Commissioners and Food and Supply officers with support of Delhi Police conducted raids against the hoarders of essential commodities including onions, potatoes, pulses, edible oil and edible oil seeds on the directions of Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

“The teams raided 549 premises and 104 traders have been prosecuted under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The raids will continue till late night.

“During the raids, the department has unearthed 12,000 quintals illegal stock of pulses and rice. The stock has been confiscated and FIR under Essential Commodities Act, 1955 has been lodged,” said S S Yadav, Commissioner (Food & Supplies).

Jung directed strict action against the hoarders to continue in future and no person involved in hoarding, profiteering and cheating people shall be spared.

This is the second raid against the hoarders in the city.

The last raid was carried out on June 19 during which the department had conducted raids on 532 premises and prosecuted 42 people.

The areas in which raids have been conducted today include Burari, Azadpur Mandi, Wazirpur, Shakur Basti, Shalimar Bagh, Narela, Rohini, Mangol Puri, Kalkaji, Badarpur, Tuglakabad, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur, Najafgarh, Palam, Dwarka, Okhla, Sadar Bazar, Ballimaran Karol Bagh, Laxmi Nagar, Trilokpuri, Sarojani Nagar, INA Market and Malviya Nagar.
