New Delhi: It was sunny but the coldest Jan 29 in the past six years with the minimum temperature dropping four notches below the season's average at 4.8 degrees Celsius. The Met department forecast dense fog Friday morning.

Thursday's maximum temperature was recorded three notches below the season's average at 18.7 degrees Celsius.

The visibility at 8.30am was 700 metres which affected arrival of 30 trains to the city while two trains were cancelled, the Northern Railway said.

"After dense fog in the morning, Delhi is likely to have clear sky Friday," an official of India Meteorological Department said. Friday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 19 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Since 2010, the coldest Jan 29 was in 2012 with the minimum temperature being recorded at 5 degrees Celsius. Last year on this day, the minimum temperature settled at 10 degrees Celsius.

"Considering that January is nearing its end, today (Thursday) was really cold," said a Delhi resident.
