Delhi Blast Toll Goes Up To 14

New Delhi, Sept 15: A 34-year-old victim of the Delhi High Court blast succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Thursday morning, taking the toll in the terror attack to 14.


Mridul Bakshi, who was seriously injured in the blast on September 7, died around 4 a.m., doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital said.

Doctors said Bakshi had suffered multiple injuries on his head, chest, hands and legs.

Mridul, a resident of Okhla in south Delhi, is survived by wife and a six-month-old son.

His brother Vinod Bakshi said that Mridul, who was working in the marketing field, had gone to the High Court on that fateful day for some official work. Mridul was blessed with a child after six years of marriage.

While 13 victims of the blast have been recently discharged, 25 others continue to undergo treatment in different city hospitals.

Besides 12 patients who are now admitted with the RML Hospital, four victims are undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, five at AIIMS, two at Max Hospital and one each at Moolchand and LNJP hospitals.

Thirteen victims of the DelhiHigh Court blast were discharged in the last two days while 26others continue to undergo treatment in different hospitals.

However, two patients admitted at the Ram Manohar LohiaHospital continue to remain critical and one underwent a legamputation yesterday, doctors said.

“We have discharged 13 patients in the last two days.Surgeries of some victims are continuing and yesterday onepatient had undergone amputation of the left leg. Some victimshave also started showing up in the OPD for follow-up care,”Dr Sunil Saxena, CMO of RML hospital, said.

42-year-old Harish Kumar, a resident of Azad market whosuffered difficult fractures in both legs was amputated in theleft leg yesterday. He is the fourth blast victim to haveundergone an amputation.

Information Commissioner, CIC, Shailesh Gandhi said,”Harish Kumar is a persistent and consistent 42-year-old RTIactivist who has appeared before me as an appellant much over100 times in various appeals. (He is) a good activistconcerned with exposing corruption and improving governance inMCD.

“He was injured in the Delhi bomb blast and fracturedboth his legs. Just received a phone from his brother that hisleft leg was amputated yesterday. I am very sad anddisturbed.”

A doctor with the hospital said, “Two patients underwentamputation immediately after admission. One patient who hasbeen sent to AIIMS also underwent amputation of the lowerlimb. Yesterday another victim admitted with us was amputatedin the left leg. This is being done to save victims frominfection.”
