New Delhi, Oct 3 : Airspace over the national capital remained closed for five hours during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
The airspace was closed from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm to ensure fool proof security for the event, an official said. No aircraft were allowed to take off or land at the Delhi airport and other airports within 300 kilometres around it except the routine commercial flights and those of Indian Air Force, Border Security Force and Aviation Research Centre.
The authorities had also banned flights of microlight aircraft and hang gliders from flying clubs and other airports during the five-hour period. PTI
