New Delhi: 48 people lost their lives due to intense cold at different places in national Capital, New Delhi, in last five days.
In Connaught Place, a 35-year-old man died on Thursday due to extreme cold and foggy weather. This was second death reported from the area in last 10 days.
235 dead bodies were recovered from open in Delhi since Dec1.

According to Delhi Police sources, 48 people died of cold related incidents only after December 22.
Rest of death reports were registered before December 22.
Sources also said that 80 per cent people who died were homeless.
If a dead body is found in open, it is very difficult to identify the deceased and hence the body is kept in hospital for three days and autopsy report is prepared. If the body remains unclaimed for three days, the concerned authorities cremate it.
The postmortem reports showed that 80 per cent people died of cold related incidents.
Several shelter homes (rain baseras) in Delhi have capacity to provide roof to 20,000 people but nearly 1.5 lakh people are forced to spend nights in open.
