The IHME report said India has made rapid progress toward Millennium Development Goals - 4 & 5 targets.
India was one of the nine countries besides China,Pakistan, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Brazil, Afghanistan and Nigeria which accounted for two-thirds of the global decline in child deaths achieved since 2000.
India is, however, still counted among the 26 countries where 80 percent of deaths in young children occur. Projections indicate that India could have a death rate for children under five below 25 deaths for every 1000 live births, the report said.
Nearly 281.8 mother dies per 1 lakh live births in the country and unless more is done address this, India will be counted among 53 other countries with maternal ratios above 100 in 2030, it said.
According to the studies, 1.2 million children below five-year died in 2013 and the figure for maternal deaths stood at 71,000.
