Kanpur, July 5 : BJP leader Uma Bharti on Monday said that even though the Central government has declared Ganga as a national river, it has failed to enact a law declaring the same.
Uma Bharti, whose Ganga Bachao Yatra (Save Ganga Rally) reached here today, said, “The Central government has declared Ganga as national river, but has failed to introduce a bill in the Parliament to make the declaration a law. It is therefore this holy river still remains polluted”.
With the coming UP elections in mind, the firebrand BJP leader, who recently made a comeback to the party, also took a dig at the UP chief minister Mayawati and said that the people of the state are tired of corruption under her rule and are looking for an alternative.
Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh endorsed what Bharti had said. “Upset over the misrule under Mayawati, people are looking for an alternative and BJP will provide the alternative,” he said.PTI
