New Delhi: The debt-ridden East Delhi Municipal Corporation today sought financial assistance from Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to help the civic body come out of the red.
A delegation of senior functionaries of EDMC under the leadership of East Delhi Mayor Meenakshi today met Jung apprising him of the financial problem that the municipal body has been facing and sought financial aid, the EDMC said.
With Assembly polls in the offing, the civic body, despite being cash-strapped, has rejected any hike in taxes or imposition of new ones in its budget this year.
But, it has sought a Rs 600 crore grant from the Delhi government in its budget to bail it out of the huge debt. The Delhi government assured the delegation of the possible help at the earliest, EDMC said in a statement.
Standing Committee Chairman B B Tyagi and Leader of House and Ram Narayan Dubey were also part of the delegation.
In a separate function in Dev Kunj park and central park in east Delhi, new dustbins were put up in the area as part of the ‘Swachch Bharat Mission'.
Mayor Meenakshi and area councillor Kalpana Devi Jain were present on the occasion.
