The Maoists targeted a convoy of 18 to 20 vehicles carrying Congress leaders on their Parivartan yatra at a place near the Jagdalpur-Sukma highway adjoining National Highway 30. Female Maoists also took part in the massacre tha began at around 3:45 pm, eyewitnesses said. The Maoists were nearly 200 in strength.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi air-dashed to Raipur on Saturday night and met the injured Congress leaders in the hospital at around 3 am.
