Guwahati, Sept 20: Toy Train services from New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling has been suspended due to landslides in several areas along its 86-km route following Sunday's quake, a spokesman of the North East Frontier Railway said here today.

The two-feet narrow gauge railway tracks of the world heritage train, however, was not damaged, he said.  All out efforts were being made to clear the debris and it was expected to run the train from tomorrow.

Four modern diesel locomotives handle most of the scheduled services though the daily Kurseong-Darjeeling return service and the daily tourist trains from Darjeeling to Ghum, country's highest railway station, are handled by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives.

Run by the Indian Railways, the Toy Train built between 1879 and 1881 is officially known as Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which was declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO in 1999. PTI
