Kohima: The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland Parliamentary Party (DANPP) has resolved to request the Government of India and the Naga nationalist groups to expedite the ongoing peace process for early resolution of the Naga political issue.

The resolution was adopted in a meeting of the DANPP held at the State Banquet Hall here last evening.

The meeting is also the first of DANPP after TR Zeliang took over as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland. He succeeded Neiphiu Rio, who demitted office on being elected as Lok Sabha MP on May 24.

DAN has 51 members with 37 NPF MLAs as major constituent, supported by one each BJP and JD(U) as pre-poll alliance while four NCP and eight Independent MLAs are also supporting the ruling front.

However, out of the 51 legislators, four members - two from NPF - sacked minister S. Pangyuh Phom and Namri Nchang and two NCP MLAs - former minister Imtilemba Sangtam and former chairman Mhonlumo Kikon did not attend the meeting held under the chairmanship of DAN Chairman Shürhozelie Liezietsu.

Adopting another resolution with the objective to provide a common platform for the elected representatives of the Naga people to work for and facilitate the early resolution of the Naga political issue, the DANPP requested the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly to reconstitute the Joint Legislature Forum of the 12th House.

Meanwhile, DANPP also thanked the leadership of the parties constituting the DAN-III, as well as Neiphiu Rio, the former Chief Minister of Nagaland for their efforts and contributions in enabling the smooth transition of power to the new Ministry, headed by TR Zeliang.

The House also extended its support to the new leadership in its effort to work for the progress and development of the state.
