Damini gangrape: juvenile accused may be freed within months

New Delhi, Jan 4: The sixth accused in the Damini gangrape case wil turn 18 after five months, but by that time, he may be roaming free on Delhi's streets. The juvenile's name has been

Under present juvenile justice law, he may get a maximum three-year sentence,  but he could be free within a few months.

The juvenile justice law says, an accused who has turned 18 cannot be sent to jail since the law does not allow those tried under the Juvenile Justice Act  to be kept in a jail meant for adults.

Moreover, if he is held guilty  after turning 18, he cannot be kept in a correction home for boys.
