Dabholkar, who was in the forefront of anti-superstition movement in the state, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne unidentified assailants on August 20, when he was out for a morning walk on the Omkareshwar temple bridge in the city. Four shots were fired at him from close range by the attackers.
Nagori and Khandelwal, who are believed to have supplied illegal fire arms to criminal gangs in the state, were arrested in the Dabholkar case based on the findings of the ballistic report pertaining to the bullets fired at the rationalist and the make of the murder weapon, sources said.
Hamid Dabholkar, son of the slain activist, reacting to the first arrests in the case, said though it showed some progress in the investigations, it did not amount to tracking down the real culprits who planned Dabholkar's murder.
