Guwahati, Jul 14: A security constable on duty in Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's official residence here tonight allegedly shot himself dead, police sources said.
Bhaskar Basu, a security constable on duty in the chief minister's official residence at Khanapara area allegedly shot himself dead with his own service rifle in an inebriated condition at around 10.20 pm, the sources said.
Senior police officers have rushed to the spot. The service rifle of Basu has been confiscated and investigations were on, they said.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was not at his official residence during the incident as he was on an official tour to Upper Assam's Kaziranga National Park, the sources added.
