Sources said Lovely gave his assessment of Congress' defeat in the city in the Lok Sabha polls and apprised Gandhi of his plans to strengthen the party ahead of assembly polls. 46-year-old Lovely vowed to strengthen the party at the grass-root level and exuded confidence of winning back people's support in the city.
Both Congress and BJP have already announced that they are ready for fresh assembly polls in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party had made efforts to form a government following its defeat in the Lok Sabha polls but Congress has made it clear it was not going to support it again following which AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal announced his party too was ready for assembly polls.
Almost all the office bearers of DPCC were removed after Congress' defeat in the assembly polls and Lovely, along with senior leaders Harun Yusuf and Sharma, was tasked to oversee functioning of the party.
“All other party cells have also been dissolved. The party will take steps to give a new direction to the party in the next one month and the process will be completed quickly,” said Sharma.
He said committed and devoted party workers will be given appropriate positions in the party organisations. “To keep proper balance in the party organisation, proper representation will be given to all sections of people, including youth, women, minorities, OBC and the scheduled castes,” said Sharma.
