An army colonel's wife Nivedita Singh, allegedly driving in an inebriated state, rammed her speeding car into an auto in Delhi cantonment area on Saturday night, killing two persons including a father of five in south-west Delhi.
Two passengers of the auto were also injured in the accident which took place in Gopinath Bazar area of Delhi Cantonment at around 11:30 PM on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as auto driver Raj Kumar (50), the only breadwinner of the family comprising his his wife, five children and parents, and Ved Prakash (23), a senior police official said today.
Nivedita Singh, wife of a serving Colonel, was returning from a shopping mall and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.
"She was speeding and lost control of her car before ramming into the auto head-on which had four occupants, including the driver," the official said.
Kumar, a resident of Uttam Nagar, and a passenger Prakash, residing in Palam Colony, died on the spot while two others Geet Singh (28) of Khanpur and Megh Singh (27) of Alwar suffered injuries.
Police said the injured were being treated at Safdurjung hospital. Nivedita was arrested and a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against her. A magistrate later released Nivedita Singh on a personal bail bond of Rs 50,000. PTI
