New Delhi : A class IX girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her aunt's home last afternoon in Dakshinpuri area of south east Delhi, police said.
The deceased, identified as Monika Singh (17), who was at her aunt's house in Ambedkar Nagar's Dakshinpuri area to prepare for the upcoming board examinations hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room using a ‘chunni', police said.
The incident came to light this afternoon when the victim's aunt Pushpa found her hanging. “In her statement, she has said Monika had gone to her school this morning.
After she returned, she went to her room, latched the door from inside and hanged herself,” said a police official.
When Pushpa informed police, a team went to the spot and took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been sent for autopsy, police said. Police have not found any suicide note from the spot but they have recovered the deceased's cell phone and a diary, police said.
Prima facie, police have ruled out any foul play.
