Srinagar: Sporadic clashes between youths and security forces took place in Nowhatta area of the city today after the Friday prayers.
As soon as the Friday prayers concluded at Jamia Masjid, a group of youth raised pro-freedom slogans and tried to march towards Nowhatta Chowk, the police said.
As the security forces deployed there asked them to disperse, the youth pelted stones on the forces, leading to clashes between the two sides, it said.
Before the clashes, some youth were seen waving flags of Pakistan and ISIS outside the grand mosque.
Meanwhile, in some parts of Kashmir Valley, funeral prayer in absentia was offered for Taliban leader Mullah Omar and Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon.
The prayers were held at Kashmir University in Srinagar, officials said.
